Let’s make room for social inclusion, organizing and a good life for all

We are SISSI – the “Neighborhood Initiative solidary Southern City Center”. An initiative by neighbors, for neighbors.

We believe that solidarity begins right at our own doorsteps. That is why we create space for people to meet and connect, organize political education, provide solidarity-based consultation within the neighborhood, and join forces to fight social injustice, racism, isolation, and displacement.

About us

We are SISSI – the “Neighborhood Initiative
Solidary Southern City Center”
. An initiative by neighbors, for neighbors. We live in the neighborhood or feel a strong connection to it.

We are united by the belief that living together in solidarity begins right on our own doorsteps and that problems affecting many must be tackled collectively. We organize ourselves through grassroots democracy – without bosses and independently of the city administration, political parties, churches, or other institutions. We make decisions together.

Many people in the “Südliche Innenstadt” face similar issues: rising rents, bad housing, racist practices by authorities, precarious employment, and social isolation. These problems are not individual; they are structural. Yet, many people feel alone in facing them.

This is where SISSI steps in: We bring people together, make shared experiences visible, and provide support to take collective action against social injustice, isolation, exclusion, and discrimination.

We offer free weekly advice on housing issues, dealings with authorities, and job searches. We are also here to listen if you are dealing with other worries or loneliness. We raise awareness about the structural nature of these problems and organize as a solidary community to fight injustice. We stand up for one another and strive for a good life for everyone!

Our first public event as SISSI was an autumn street festival that brought together a diverse range of people from the neighborhood. With free food, workshops, live music, and childcare, residents started conversations and engaged in creative discussions about shaping our neighborhood.

Together with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds, we experienced the joy of simply having a good time without any pressure to consume or expectation of something in return.

Following that, we had door-to-door conversations to learn about the concerns and wishes of the residents of “Südliche Innenstadt”, and we implemented projects based on the needs they expressed. We have established an intercultural reading café, interactive festival activities, litter-picking actions, and discussion groups.

Our solidarity-based counseling service is particularly important; through it, we help people facing various challenges find solutions together, free of charge. We aim to foster collective organizing through our general assemblies in order to tackle the multiple crises of our time at the local level.

We are currently fine-tuning our next projects. The most important one is the creation of a place for everyone to meet, to participate and organize – a space for the “good life” for all! But to make this happen, we need your donation…
