Hello and welcome to our blog!
Over the coming weeks and months, you will find updates on the fundraising campaign and everything happening around our new space here. Today is the big day – our campaign kicks off! We want to open a 120-square-meter space on Merseburger Straße in early November – a place for the neighborhood to come together and share life. To make this happen, we are collecting one-time and monthly donations, and we need your help!
“People used to come together more often,” says Heike from SISSI. “You knew your neighbors and could count on one another. That’s something I’d love to see more of today.” And that’s what we’re working on together!
SISSI shapes the Neighborhood
We’ve been active for two years now – organizing street festivals, litter-cleanup drives, and free weekly consultations. We bring people together, make lived experiences visible, and help turn ideas into collective action – against social injustice, exclusion, and isolation. In times of a political shift to the right, we stand firm for grassroots democratic values and a diverse, tolerant community.
SISSI sees time and again just how important open spaces are for this. “Open spaces are becoming increasingly rare in our city,” says Luca from SISSI. “We say: They shouldn’t be a luxury. We need places for community and mutual support.”
What will happen in the Space?
Everyone is invited to help shape the space and bring it to life. Along with plenty of cozy seating, there will be a kitchen and a play area for children. Plans include cooking events, shared meals, educational activities, intercultural festivals, a language café, family programs, music, and physical activities.
We will be expanding regular SISSI activities, such as the solidarity-based consultation and general assemblies. There will also be room for other groups to meet and for ideas from the neighborhood to take shape.
SISSI needs Support
We launched our fundraising campaign today. We need your help now to cover the rent for the space – so that we can soon call on you to help shape and design it! You can contribute via small or large one-time donations or through monthly support; however, we rely on regular donations to maintain the space in the long run.
